How we make our guidance

Who writes it

Our articles are produced by the GranGuard editorial team and published under the byline "GranGuard Editorial". Every article names the person who reviewed and approved it before publication.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to help draft articles, working from a detailed brief and our own curriculum. Nothing publishes on the strength of that alone. A named person on our team reads every article in full, checks it against our sources, and approves it before it goes live. If it has not been read by a person, it does not go out.

We tell you this because we would want to know.

Where our facts come from

Every figure we publish comes from a primary source, named on the page with the year it was published:

• The Federal Trade Commission
• The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center
• Action Fraud and the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau
• The Office for National Statistics
• The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and Scamwatch
• UK Finance
• Published research from organisations such as AARP

We do not repeat statistics we cannot trace back to the report they came from.

Where figures come from reported crime, we say "reported". Most fraud is never reported, so these numbers are a floor, not a total.

What we will not do

We will not promise that anything makes you scam-proof. No product can, including ours. What we can do is help you recognise how manipulation works and give you a practised response, so you have time to think when it matters.

We will not publish anything written by someone who does not exist, and we will not use fear to get your attention.

When we get it wrong

We correct errors on the page and say what changed and when. If something we published turns out to be misleading, we take it down.

Security advice also ages: phone settings move, scams change tactics. Every article shows when it was last reviewed.
